Hand-Painted

The Challenge

Tarsh sells kurtis and shrugs hand-painted by Madhubani artisans in Muzaffarpur — pieces that take one artisan three to five days and are never repeated. A standard product-grid storefront would have flattened all of that into another discounted ethnic-wear listing. The store had to justify a premium price by making the craft legible: who painted this, how, what the motifs mean, and why no two pieces are the same.

Our Solution

We built the storefront on Shopify with a heavily customised Impulse theme, structured so that the craft narrative carries the same weight as the catalogue. Alongside Shop, the navigation opens into The Craft — techniques, motifs and dyes — plus Artisans and Our Story, and the homepage runs a full editorial sequence: a rotating hero on wearable heritage, an explainer on the Bharni technique and the sacred motifs, the artisan certificate of origin that ships with every garment, and an interactive five-stage journey from fabric selection through charcoal sketch, dye fill, sun cure and dispatch. Below that sit the impact figures, verified customer stories from across India, and an Instagram feed of behind-the-brush reels. The commerce fundamentals are wired in throughout — 42 products across kurtis, shrugs, Ikat, dresses and bottom wear, category landing pages, free shipping above ₹999, five-day returns, secure payments and 24/7 WhatsApp support.

The Results

The store is live and selling nationwide, carrying the brand's own reported impact — 15+ artisan families supported and 500+ pieces delivered across India — with customer reviews from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai repeatedly citing the artisan certificate and the authenticity of the motifs as the reason they bought.
